Recycling Paper Tension has been committed to environmental stewardship throughout the company’s history. We continue to look for new ways to conserve on materials and energy in the manufacture and distribution of envelopes and packaging products.

Each day we recycle paper trim, shipping materials, and plant waste. Even the hot air from our paper-trim vacuum systems in our plants is recycled for winter heating and for drying envelope adhesives.

In our flexographic printing we use water-based fluid inks, which are well within the emission standards set by the EPA.

Several years ago, Tension implemented a company-wide waste-reduction program based on the principles of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. A committee in each of our plants is charged with monitoring waste management and developing new methods to reduce and recycle materials. This program positively impacts both the environment and our cost-management process.

We also offer our customers products to help them in their environmental efforts. We now offer three distinct styles of two-way, reusable envelopes. The classic Send-’n-Return envelope has been an industry standard since 1984. The new EcoFirst 360 offers a unique open/close feature that minimizes the paper use for outgoing and return mail. Tension is now the primary national licensee for EcoEnvelopes products. Two-way, reusable envelopes combine the outgoing and reply envelope into one efficient piece, using less paper than two separate envelopes and offering excellent recycling opportunities.

Tension envelopes are available in papers from forests and mills certified for responsible forestry practices. Tension is certified as a supplier under these programs and dedicated to the sustainability of the paper and converting industries. A broad choice of recycled papers is also available for our products, along with special window films engineered for a better environment.
